A wire mesh spark arrestor is a screen that’s installed in an exhaust system to stop hot carbon particles from escaping and igniting nearby vegetation or combustible materials. Spark arrestors can come with many mounting options, such as flanges or collars, that the wire mesh cylinder is resistance-welded to.

Primary Functions & Benefits of a Spark Arrestor

These screens are widely used in off-road equipment, chainsaws, generators, and agricultural machinery, and serve two primary purposes: to maintain industry compliance and to provide protection.

  • Protection: Spark arrestors prevent sparks from reaching dry vegetation, helping prevent wildfires. They also stop debris backflow and exhaust damage.
  • Compliance & Liability: The USDA Forest Service, along with many state agencies, requires spark arrestors in equipment and tools used in or near forested/wildland areas.

Not All Spark Arrestors Are Designed the Same
